We have implemented radial geometry for our finite element code – FEST. This allows efficient and accurate simulation of radial flow systems for representing borehole tests and investigations. We have tested it on a range of problems including the ‘Oude Korendijk’ pumping test from Kruseman and De Ridder… Here is a match to the data they present (using the parameters they fitted to r=30m) and a verification of the Thiem distance drawdown relationship for the same model. Fest has a fixed no drawdown boundary at r=215m which is perhaps a bit close for the late time data match where the FEST model starts to approach steady conditions corresponding to the fixed head boundary.
